Earlier this year I had the wonderful opportunity to travel to South America for the wedding you will see in the following photos. The couple, Lina and Miguel, tied the knot officially in the capital of Colombia, Bogota and few days later had the wedding party on the Carribean coast in Santa Marta. It was my favourite type of event – just a small circle of close family and friends, beautiful nature, wedding spread over several days. With many guests from abroad, there was sufficient time for everyone to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Colombia and for the bride and groom to really take in all of the wedding day emotions, that otherwise go by so fast.
It was also by far the most distant place my work has ever brought me to and it was a really beautiful experience. Here we go…
THE STORY
The Venue: La Mar de Bien
Tucked away on the Caribbean coast near Santa Marta, Colombia, La Mar de Bien is such a beautiful option for a destination wedding if you’re looking for something relaxed, tropical and a little off the beaten path. The boutique hotel sits right by the Caribbean Sea, surrounded by the lush landscapes of the Sierra Nevada, with a peaceful atmosphere that makes it easy to slow down and enjoy the celebration.
It’s also a fantastic base for a wedding weekend, with accommodation on site so your closest friends and family can stay together and make the most of the trip. Tayrona National Park, Buritaca and Quebrada Valencia are all nearby, giving your guests plenty to explore before or after the wedding, while Santa Marta and its airport are still within easy reach. Think barefoot beach moments, tropical surroundings, great food, long evenings by the sea and a whole weekend spent celebrating with your favourite people — pretty much everything you could want from a destination wedding in Colombia.
