Couple Photoshoot on the Beach in Tenerife: M & K

THE STORY
M&K reached out to me before their trip to Tenerife as a newly engaged couple, wanting to capture this special time in their lives with a couples photoshoot in Tenerife. They were drawn to the island’s beautiful black-sand beaches, and Playa Bollullo near Puerto de la Cruz was the perfect choice — not only because of its dramatic scenery, but also because it was within walking distance of their accommodation. All we needed was some beautiful golden light, the striking black sand of Playa Bollullo, and a couple completely in love.
One thing to keep in mind is that you can’t see the sunset directly from this beach year-round because of its position. But in late July, we happened to have the perfect conditions. Completely unexpectedly, the sun aligned perfectly behind one of the rock formations, creating a beautiful ray of light and the most magical effect in the photos. It was one of those little moments you can’t plan for — and definitely a day to remember.

Relaxed, natural and authentic setting to make you feel comfortable in front of the camera
There’s just something about doing your photoshoot on the beach that makes everything feel more relaxed. You can walk around, move freely, get in the water, play around and just be yourselves instead of standing in one spot and posing. I find that this usually makes the photos feel much more natural and authentic too — and honestly, it just feels easy, even for people who feel a bit intimidated to be in front of the camera (a.k.a. most of my clients!)
Tenerife has some amazing black-sand beaches, especially in the north of the island. Places like this one — Playa Bollullo near Puerto de la Cruz — offer dramatic scenery and, compared to many of the southern beaches, a much quieter atmosphere. One thing to keep in mind is the tide, as it can completely change how the beach looks and how much space you have. This is where having a local photographer can really help — I can check the tides and help you choose the best time and location for your shoot.
